Don’t Bother with Freebie Dating Sites
Some things that are free are cool. Free condoms? Awesome. Free drinks? Cool. Free Pay-Per-View? Excellent, especially if it’s wrestling, boxing, or porn.
But free sites that give some kind of service besides email are, for the most part, worthless.
We’re not talking YouTube here. That’s a free site, but it has a product—besides being a cesspit for twelve-year-olds whose parents won’t give them a World of Warcraft or other multiplayer game subscription—it has a few cool videos.
And we don’t mean email because, there’s Gmail. A little fast with the blacklisting of sites we actually want to hear from, but it stands up to most tests. There’s paid email, of course, but free is fine. Free dating sites, though? Those are where the twelve-year-olds from YouTube go when they can’t get a sex partner any other way.
There’s little to no quality control
The listings are full of fake profiles, ones that advertise for cam girls, some that advertise for escorts. Nothing against cam girls or escorts, we respect them, but we’re not looking for them in a professional capacity when we’re looking for a date. If they’re also looking for a date, then cool—but they’re probably not on the free sites.
You’re not going to get matched with anyone on a free site.
At best, they’ll use a randomizer that matches people based on the gender they’re interested in and just throw random names at their users. At worst, it’s like old personals columns. You have list after list of women interested in men to sort through. They might not even go through that trouble; it’s entirely possible to find a free site that has page after page of every single user: women, men; lesbians, gay men, straight people; single, married. Who has time for that? If you’re that desperate, throw an ad up on Craigslist. You might actually get to meet a real person that way.
Paid Sites are Better
Money’s tight these days, we know. Everyone lives on a budget. But that budget means not going out and meeting people, or the work to have a looser budget means no time to meet people. You’re better off throwing twenty or thirty bucks at a site, putting on a movie, and settling on the couch with your laptop to fill out questionnaires. They take forever, we know. They’re annoying and long and kind of intrusive. About half an hour in, a free site will sound pretty good, and you’ll go check one out—and it’ll remind you why you’re working on those questionnaires.
The paid sites don’t guarantee a date. If one don’t go for it; they’re either a front for an escort service or brothel, or they’ll overcharge and never get back to you. But the paid sites do have better algorithms, actually match people based on interests, activities, hobbies, work, and send suggestions for women to contact who might actually be interested. No trawling lists of women. No fake profiles. No cam girl ads. Just actual results for actual women, and you might actually get a date from it.
