Although On.com makes an effort, it falls short of the quality demonstrated in the top five list. Though the interface is serviceable, the number of women proved slightly disappointing, and the number of responses were lacking during our On review, as was the commitment to the process itself.
A quality dating site can be tricky to find, but with the methods we used to investigate these sites, we’re hoping to narrow it down—depending on what exactly it is you need. There are so many different things to look out for, so it’s important to be sure about what you want before getting started.
On.com: Review Our Results Using The On.com Site
Unlike with Match, we received relatively few responses. Despite sending 500 emails, we got only 64 response emails, and no dates were setup as a result. This is actually the third lowest response rate in all of our data, and does not bode well for the potential success of such a site. There is still a chance of some sort of opportunity, but it requires a lot more effort! With no potential dates set up in 500 emails, the average Joe has to wonder what his chances are.
In the online dating community, no news is not good news. You expect to get some bang for your buck, or otherwise why waste the time or spend the money? You wouldn’t pay for entrance to an amusement park if none or only one of the rides were operational, after all—that’s more-or-less the entire point! During our On review we felt like there was just nothing there to do. There’s no supply available to satisfy the demand, and if that supply is supposed to be entertainment, the lack of it is readily apparent.
Looking at the grid above, you can see where On.com fell down on the job in this area. 500 emails represents a lot of effort, especially for the average person who would send nowhere near that amount, and no reward for that kind of time put forth is certainly discouraging. Even Flirt.com had a better response rate, albeit not much of one, and Match had an excellent response rate not just in comparison to this site but all of the sites, which makes sense, given its number one rating.
On.com Issues: 3 Things On.com Didn’t Do Well
One of the major things where On.com was found lacking was the presence of women on the site. For every one woman, there were at least three men, and that does not result in good odds—it’s reminiscent of a crowded bar on Friday night, full of men with only the occasional woman getting too many offers. Of those women some of them we suspected to just be on there to use the odds for an On scam. Better sites have a more representative presence and therefore offer a better chance of success.
Another area where On.com fell short had to be the number and quality of responses. As mentioned above, the response rate was lacking, and the responses themselves were indifferent and disinterested, making you wonder why anyone would sign up for a dating site and waste their money if they weren’t going to use the service to the fullest extent available. Would you pay for a movie and then only stay for the previews? Of course not. And yet some people seem to use On.com in a similar way.
The third, and possibly the most interesting, point we noted was that the site skewed toward the flirters—the ones who will occasionally respond to emails but mostly use their profiles as decoration than any actual desire to set up dates with anyone. In other words, these were the window-shoppers of the online-dating world.
On.com Review: Is On.com Legit & Worth Joining?
On.com makes a valiant effort, but it falls short in several places, and overall, it’s probably not going to be worth it. The overall vibe of the site is not conducive to getting the results that ought to be expected, and you spend time on smaller, less important things when you could spend time on bigger, more important ones.
While trying is important, it isn’t everything, and there is such a thing as being too eager. Is On.com a good site? That depends on what kind of atmosphere you’re looking for. This site, while maybe has potential, is still in its pre-adolescent stages. There aren’t any real protections from an On scam. You’re left feeling as though the entire site has stolen its father’s car keys and is trying to bluff its way into an R-rated movie. You might find some success, but it would take a lot of effort that you could probably expend in a smarter and easier manner. It’s a better use of your time and money to check out Match, which earned the top dating site spot.
